Give Forward Donations For Team Nicole

A dear family friend of mine has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is just 27 years old. I have copied the information from her site for you to read! Please help if you can...

My sister Nicole Hobson (age 27) called my mom because she felt a lump in her breast. She scheduled a doctor’s appointment to have it checked out. On February 18th 2010, not one of us, doctors included, thought she would get a call saying “It is cancer.”

All I could think after hearing the news was, “I can’t believe it. She is way too young, we have no family history of breast cancer, she has two small kids a loving husband, more energy than anyone I know, she is healthy, and she is my best friend.”

Nicole returned to the doctors only to find out more bad news. Partly because Nicole is so young her cancer is an aggressive cancer. She has HER2+ breast cancer, which means her cells are dividing and multiplying quickly, and the cancer is invasive.

She learned that she would need surgery, a minimum of three months of Chemotherapy, and then radiation. Nicole also learned there is a good chance that her cancer is genetic. This means that her two girls, ages 20 months and 4 years old, will need to be watched closely for the rest of their lives. The doctors also believe Nicole has had cancer for at least three years.

Nicole is a strong woman. If you know her, you know she is a ball of fire! She is independent, smart, funny, and tough as nails. She has the spirit to fight her cancer, but needs everyone’s help to win!

As I mentioned before, Nicole is a wife and mother. She has a wonderfully strong, supportive husband Tim and two beautiful young girls Cameron and Madison. Nicole is currently working full-time, and is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Education. She is determined to complete her Master’s and graduate as expected (if you know her you are not surprised!) This girl is a fighter.

Now- why she needs your help:

Nicole does not have health insurance. About a year and a half ago, her husband was laid off due to the economy affecting his field of work. They were just on the rebound of that struggle when this hit. Currently, they both work full time and are paid on an hourly basis. In the upcoming months, they will need to take time off for her surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. In the first week alone, after learning Nicole had cancer, they both had to spend four days away from work.

Why we picked the goal amount of $25,000:

We don't know what the total expenses are going to be - but we HAD to get something started.

The cost for medical treatments and to maintain daily living expenses while she fights this battle are already mounting. It is important that Nicole and her family focus all of their energy and strength on winning this battle. We are raising money to offset/assist with these expenses. I am hoping with your help we can alleviate that financial burden so Nicole can concentrate on getting better.

We know Nicole will need financial assistance in paying for Chemotherapy, radiation and medications, gas money to get back and forth from the hospital which is an hour and a half away from her home, money to offset their time away for work for groceries, bills, the mortgage etc., and costs for surgeries/procedures. As an example, Nicole needs genetic testing which alone is $3,000.

All your generous contributions are deeply appreciated- anything you can give will help!
